Florida Vacation

06/21/2009

We enjoyed experiencing the Sunshine state with Caleb for the first time! He was like a fish in the water when we were in the pool. Not sure if he liked the ocean since he seemed scared of the crashing waves. Please check out all the pictures and, we’re excited to say, videos of our trip on our share site:  http://hearnpics.shutterfly.com    This site is password protected so if you don’t have the password and want it, please e-mail me.

Happy First Father’s Day to Caleb’s great dad!!! And we hope all the other fatastic  fathers had a wonderful day!

BIG developments

06/20/2009

Yikes! How time flies…

Since our last post Caleb is now walking most places relatively well without assistance, we have had a vacation to Florida and, oh yeah, wait for it……  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

*****We found out we are having a baby*****

I think that’s probably enough said for now! Will post more about our vacation with pictures soon! (In the meantime, check out the pregnancy ticker by lilypie in the right column)

At it again…

That is…

Cutting off 10 inches to donate to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for children.

The next time you are looking to change your look and you have plenty of length to your hair, consider cutting off enough to donate.

http://www.locksoflove.org/ requires a minimum of 10 inches.

But Pantene Beautiful Lengths http://www.beautifullengths.com/en_US/index_home.jsp accepts a minimum of 8 inches, which is a little easier.

I have been alternating. My first donation was 13 inches to Locks of Love. My last donation was 8 inches to Pantene. I found Pantene because I was getting frustrated and was getting the itch to chop my hair off again but it wasn’t long enough. When I discovered Pantene took less and helped a different demographic, I was excited. Their wigs go to women who have lost their hair due to cancer.

Memorial Day 2009

05/25/2009

Every year the local Boy Scouts put up flags and luminaries at each headstone in the Federal Cemetery in Fredericksburg, VA. It’s a breathtaking site to behold! Most of those buried in this cemetery are from the civil war and have only a number to identify them. They play Taps every 30 minutes and there are stations throughout with various stories about the cemeteries history and known individuals buried there. You can’t help but be moved by the overwhelming thought of all the people, past and present, who have given up their lives for what they believe in and freedom!

We also went on a fun adventure to a great restaurant, Tim’s Rivershore (Waterfront dining) on the Potomac River.

4 Years

05/15/2009

It’s a whole new ball game now.

Our 1st Anniversary: a retreat like trip to Brown County, Indiana          (retreat like because there is not much to do there and everything closes around 5:00, except a few eating establishments)

Our 2nd Anniversary: a fun-filled trip to San Francisco, California             (fun-filled because we had a great personal guide to show us all the best things to do. Thanks again Mazie!)

Our 3rd Anniversary: an adventurous trip to St. Louis, Missouri      (adventurous because we explored it on our own and Cary actually got me up in the arch)

Our 4th Anniversary: a family night in our hometown                                 (dinner for 3 at a local, Caleb approved, Italian restaurant and we wouldn’t have it any other way this year)

Baby Birds

05/12/2009

This is our second year hosting a bird family. Both years they have been a threat to visitors to our house. So this year I posted a sign to warn people who attempt to ring our doorbell. Last year we had Robin’s. This year Dove’s took over. Last year we had 4 or 5 babies. We could see at least 4 heads but sometimes it looked like more. Those babies were small. This year, the babies were just revealed and they were huge for baby birds. Only 2 of them. Here’s one picture of each. The one too scared to leave and the one made the brave leap to the ground.

Mother’s Day 2009

05/10/2009

This was a my first Mother’s Day, which is a feeling that can’t compare to anything else. I thought this day would never come and now my heart is so full of joy! I praise God for this day, for answered prayers, for a loving husband and a child who makes me smile on a daily basis!

My present was a Redbud tree! I’m very excited to see the purple blossoms come out :O)

Hiking Adventure

05/09/2009

We had really fun time getting into the great outdoors! The trail was good except for all the downed trees that crossed it and made it challenging to get to our goal… Tioga Falls.

Note to Self: When you haven’t been on a trail before, do not take your child and your dog for the first time.

After our hike, we rewarded ourselves by going to a local favorite, Mike Lennig’s. Apparently they have really good fish but I don’t eat fish so I can’t give my opinion but Caleb really seemed to like it. The onion rings were pretty good too! Caleb didn’t get any of those.

THOGL friends

05/03/2009

We were so excited to see our old pals, Donnie, Rebecca and Elisha Berry as well as meet their new addition, Judah! We are so blessed to have a network of parents who have also adopted from the orphanage in Taiwan!
